My Dearest Beauties,
Oh yeah! It is beach season! We all start thinking of
sunbathing, tans and tan lines. I have a few tips on how to get a fairly
amazing tan. I will have to say it though I am not into tanning that much but
if I am to do it I like to it right. Sun bathing can be harmful for your skin
and protection is important.
As always, we have to start with preparation. A day or two
before you plan on sunbathing or tanning; try to exfoliate all of your body thoroughly.
This will give you a smooth surface by getting rid of the dead skin cells. This
ensures that your tan will last longer as you are speeding up the cycle of cell
reproduction by getting rid of the dead cells layer on your skin. If you’ve
read my previous post on the best way to shave your legs you would know that my favorite body scrub is Clarins
Smoothing Body Scrub for a New Skin. It is also very important that you
maintain much hydrated skin with your regular body lotion.
Now, the fun part. When you are to pick a tanning oil or
lotion, don’t choose the ones that have no SPF. Sun tanning is harmful for your
skin in itself. When your selected oil/lotion has at least 6 or 8 SPF it makes
all the difference. I personally find that I get a slight color change whilst
avoiding getting burnt. I usually use Lancaster Silky Milk Fast Tan Optimizer
SPF15 and/or Satin Sheen Oil Fast Tan Optimizer SPF 30. These will give you a
healthy tan. If you want to get very dark then you have to visit the beach more
often because these will work gradually. Make sure to drink lots of water and fresh juices while you are under the sun to maintain supple skin. I personally prefer healthy skin that
toasted skin.
It is obvious that the
only way to avoid tan lines is to use the tiniest bikinis that have strapless
tops. Try to go for your smallest suits at the beginning of the season to get a
good base color.
As for maintaining a beautiful tan I have two tips. First,
when you jump in the shower, during tanning season, do not use a rough loofah
instead spread your shower gel of choice with your hands all over your body. Immediate
exfoliation will not let your tan last long. Second, it is crucial that you use
after sun lotion to maintain hydrated skin (they are also great to keep fresh
skin). I have two favorites, After-Sun Care Lotion by Avène and Daily Milky
Care After Sun by Vichy.
Last but not least, if you decide to sun tan, please make
sure not to let your face unprotected. Use your daily sun block all up to your
neck. I know you will end up being two colors but that can be fixed in your
makeup routine. Premature wrinkled skin is not something we want, and I say “we”
because I’m sure!

DeleteDo you have any suggestions for a sunless tan? I recently tried st.tropez mousse, It gave me a nice glow, but also left me with a slight orange tint.
