Manicure of the Week: Black is Always In

My Dearest Beauties,

Black is a nail color that some people are scared of trying. But it is some others' staple. I love to wear it all year long, I feel like it adds edge to your looks. It also looks very classy when applied on very short nails.

We used Peggy Sage in the shade "Nuit" number 106. It goes on gorgeously and unlike many blacks it is extremely opaque and super dark. Some blacks end up looking like a really dark grey but not a true black even after a couple of coats.

The accent nail was a simple sprinkle of large sized gold glitter.

If you are interested in my beautician her name is Remi, contact me to get her number.

Summer Day Time Foundation Routine

My Dearest Beauties,

Foundation routines in the summer get tricky. We have so many layers to think of and so much heat to melt them all off. The trick is minimizing layers and using multi-tasking products. Another very important tip is to never forget to set your foundation with a good oil absorbing powder. These steps will prolong the life of your makeup thus making you look flawless for longer. Stay oil free and with a beautiful complexion. Use a good moisturizer before hand and let it sit for at least 10 minutes, give your skin time to absorb it and interact with it. Like I've mentioned before, moisturizer will not only give life and flexibility to your skin but it will also allow the products to glide on it like a dream.

Products used:

Start by using a tinted sun protection. This is crucial for maintaining youthful skin that is sun spot free and unified by the tint. Dot it all over your face, do not shy away! You need to protect your skin. Then rub it in in circular motions all over your face and down your neck. Rub it in till the fluid unifies and covers all spots on your skin.Use your concealer to hide under eye circles or any blemishes that were not covered by the tinted sun fluid. Right after that comes setting your under eye concealer and face. For my eyes I use the technique used in my previous post of how to stop mascara from smudging. For your face use a powder puff to press the powder onto your face. It is very important that you do not rub in the powder with a brush or a sponge. When you press the powder in, instead of brushing it on, you will not only set the liquid products but you will not move them around therefore uncovering what is supposed to be covered. Apply a bit of bronzer and blusher to your preference and spray it all with Mac Fix+ to make all the powders look less powdery and more like skin. There you go! All done!

This is the finished look with the rest of my makeup on.

Enjoy protected and flawless skin all day all summer long!

Quick Outfit of the Day or Night: The Way I Wear Stripes

My Dearest Beauties,

Stripes have been in for the past two seasons and they are a No, No, for some people. But, they are not so difficult to style. You can wear them with a bold color, like I did or with a cream color and it should lead you to making a statement.

I am wearing:
H&M Skirt I got three days ago at the sales rack for extremely cheap (urge you to go grab it if you like it)
Calvin Klein Strappy Sandals
Jewelry is J.Crew, Bvlgari & CN Jewels

For those of you who do not know my human accessory, this is my fiance Nashat!

What are your thoughts on stripes? Leave me your thoughts in the comments below! It really makes my day.

Stay Beautiful,

Samar xx

Talk with My Favorite Nutritionist: Magie Tamraz

My Dearest Beauties,

Two weeks ago I decided I needed to see how I was really doing fitness wise. I went to Magie for consultation and as it turns out I have some more body fat to burn out and some muscles to gain. She gave me the best health program I have personally ever tried. I count portions and calories, I can choose from any of my favorite carbohydrates, proteins, fruits etc. So I mix and match, it is all about juggling and balancing with my portions and types of foods. I successfully lost two kilograms of pure fats! I have to say, I worked religiously with the program for the week days, the weekend, on the other hand were a little crazy.

What I love the most about my experience with Magie as my dietitian is that I am learning a lot about patterns of healthy eating and I feel like this could easily be incorporated into any lifestyle. I say that because, unlike going to work or attending classes in college, eating is not a task that we often practice as a strict schedule. We do not have working hours or special tasks, when we think of having a meal, I find. We sometimes have to stick to what we have, to what is the most practical. Sometimes we are obliged to eat out or sometimes we do not have the energy to stick to a strict diet. That is when working with portions comes in handy! You can always work your way around it, you can have a little more of x instead of y.

Now, I worked with Magie on some very common mistakes we make and questions we have.

This is what Magie had to say:

We put together the top five types of snacks that are healthy but they often are guilty of carrying a high calorie content.

  1. Olive Oil. Especially in our Lebanese heritage foods, meals like tabouli, labneh and zaatar sandwiches. Olive oil is definitely a healthy fat but, it is a fat at the end, and each teaspoon of it equals one whole portion of fat from your day.
  2. Dried fruits and nuts. These are delicious and a personal favorite but if eaten in crazy portions they become a weapon against maintaining a healthy balance.
  3. Corn Flakes and Granola Bars. These have high contents of carbohydrates and are easily eaten in bigger portions.
  4. Fresh Almonds and Pistachios. During the season of these delicious nuts, we tend to over eat them and although they are healthy, the big amounts turn them guilty.
  5. Avocados. Whether eaten alone, in salads, fruits cocktails or juiced; this deliciously guilty fruit is high in fats and cannot be eaten in big portion. Very healthy but very guilty.
Another common question is how can we maintain a balance while eating our guilty pleasures? Getting back on track or not even coming close to ruining your health program when having your treat is possible. We worked on some simple examples.

If you have a beer, then you will have to count it as two portions of carbohydrates. Two portions of carbs are about a loaf of arabic bread or a cup of cooked rice or pasta.

If you have a small cupcake, you will have to omit having portions of carbs and fats from your day. It all depends on the size of the cupcake.

If you have half a chocolate bar, you will have to omit a portion of carbs and a portion of fats. Chocolate is a carbohydrate and the butter and cream in it is a fat.

If you have a thin slice of pizza, omit having a portion of carbs. If you have a thick slice of pizza, it counts as much as 300 calories which is two whole portions of carbohydrates. You can eat it instead of your carbs portion or do a full hour of high intensity cardiovascular work outs.

If you have fried chips, have around 12 units and eat them as a portion of carbohydrates and don't forget that  it is fried in oil so omit a portion of your fat intake.

L'oreal Paris Easy Smokey Eyes

My Dearest Beauties,

Smokey eyes! We all love them! So sultry and sexy! Well, today I bring to you a very easy way to achieve a  smokey eye look with accessible products and easy techniques. As you have already noticed, I have all my face makeup and eyebrows done.

Let's jump right in. I started by applying a thin coat of L'oreal Paris Gel Intenza Eyeliner in 01 Pure black. I applied that gel eyeliner on my lid and the outer edge of my lower lash line like I showed you in the picture below. Make sure to blend all the rough edges. This is going to ensure that our smokey eye lasts and that it is the blackest of blacks.

Once I was done with the dark base, I went in for the black shadow in this beautiful little palette from L'oreal Paris in E5 Velours Noir. I patted that black shadow all over the already black area to ensure that it will not move and make me look like a panda (not that they aren't cute). You know the drill everything applied should be then blended with a clean fluffy brush to avoid any harsh lines. Done with black, I then went in with the gunpowder shade from the palette and applied it to the center on my eyelid to create a gradient. To brighten the whole look up I finished off with some of the white shimmer shade in the inner corner of my eye. Of course, I blended everything in together with another fluffy clean brush.

You are done, except, to make a smokey eye look extra beautiful I recommend you take a bit of your favorite bronzer on a clean brush and sweep it on top of the black, kind of just above where your eye naturally creases. This will make you look like your were born with a perfect smokey eye on.

This is the look with no mascara.

I gave my lashes a very good curl and then went in with L'oreal Paris Lash Architect Black Lacquer Mascara in Black. I, then, finished it all off with L'oreal Paris Glam Shine Stain Splash in 102 Romy.

Follow these steps and you will get a beautiful smokey eye. Tell me what you think of this look in the comments below. (I will have to excuse myself for the sun, it just wasn't cooperating with me while taking the pictures, please excuse him, kidding! Excuse me for some of the orange pictures, my face contouring doesn't look ugly or dirty in real life at all).

Much love,

Samar
