Invest in a Designer Bag

My Dearest Beauties,

I will put it out there from the start! I believe that a good designer bag is an investment; an investment that is well worth it. Saving money to invest in a timeless designer bag is just like working hard for your dream home. Okay, not that much but in that same sense. If you buy a timeless designer piece, it will stay in style and in your closet for a very long time (you may even inherit it to your grand kids) . Not only are they of great quality but they are also very stylish and tend to add a lot to your outfits. I love me some designer handbags but they are really heavy on the pocket; for that reason I thought I would share with you some of my tips on a designer bag purchase.

  1. Stay away from trend at the beginning of your collection. Go for the timeless and classic piece. I know that the novel collections are to die for but when buying a designer bag is an investment for you, buying a trendy, studded or funky colored purse will not fit the purpose. Go for the classic collection, where you find the classic shapes and colors, because it will not get outdated, it will fit most of your outfits and you will not get bored of it easily. Even when you do end up getting bored, put it away for some time and you will see yourself going back to it.
  2. Choosing the right color. if you just started your collection, it is better that you buy a nude, brown or black. Nude and black will never fail you. Every lady should have a black or/and nude bag because they are staple pieces that will be extremely handy for your everyday use.
  3. Shape and cut. If you are looking into buying a heavy duty designer bag (one that you intend to use every day). Make sure to think of your previous bags. Do you prefer sloppy or sturdy bags?  Do you need a lot of different compartments? Is the zipper a must? Open with no zipper, magnetic button maybe? Don’t forget to think of the size that you usually need to fit all of your stuff. Some designs may drive you crazy, but ask yourself will it be functional enough for your lifestyle?
  4. Size and your body. size is important not only because you need to fit your belongings but also because your bag becomes part of you. When hunting for the perfect bag, make sure that the size of the bag goes well with your body and with your lifestyle.
  5. The grip. Think of the grip. Do you like to hang your bag on your shoulder or do go for the arm? It is more important than you think. I love cross bags but I just cannot wear them for long because they hurt my shoulders. So even if you are in love with the style of the bag you will end up only wearing it only on some occasions due to its lack of comfort. It would be a waste to invest a bag for the closet to wear.
  6. Choose the right material. Leather is the best, in my opinion, but some very good ones are made of really high quality polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is the type of plastic that many high end brands use to make some of their bags; among them are Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Burberry, Armani and many others. Mind that real leather bags are always on a higher price point that PVC ones.

I hope you find these tips helpful. Tell me what your favorite designer bag is in the comments below!
